Saturday August 27th saw the return of Ireland's oldest agricultural show, the Iverk Piltown Show. The show always has a strong livestock section with the dairy prize money on offer at the show well worth the effort.
The Irish Pure Friesian Club is working hard to make this a date in the calendar for British Friesian breeders each summer. This year there were three dedicated classes, with thanks to the sponsors Zurich, Alltech and DeLaval.
Thanks to all the Pure Friesian exhibitors and visitors to our show area! Next year, it'll be even bigger & better.
Contact Pat Cleary 086 8807979 if you are interested in showing. It's a great, social day with the chance of some nice prize money and rosettes.
Class 1A was the Pure Friesian calf class, won by Grenan Afie 4060 (known to her friends as "Sprinkle") Here is Sprinkle with her handler Jo Quealy and the sponsor representative from Zurich. Patrick Quealy, in the video below, gives further information on Sprinkle and the other Grenan cows at Iverk this year.
Class 3 was Pure Friesian Heifer in Milk, sponsored by Alltech. The was won by Churchclara, a smashing Nerewater Launcher heifer, her mum is 14 years old and still milking in the herd! Check out the video below for full details on the Churchclara cows at Iverk this year.
Class 4 was Pure Friesian Cow in Milk sponsored by De Laval and won by a Carrickshock cow, out of Catalane Chad. Again, check out the videos below for detailed description from Pat Cleary about the Carrickshock cows at Iverk this year.
