Timed auction - like playing hide'n'seek at a mart!
Last weekend was quite exciting as we all kept a close eye on the progress of bids on Michael Spillane's quality stock, on sale via a timed auction. The sale ended Monday night after 7pm and there were some exciting finishes produced by a good trade, and quality stock with generations of performance giving confidence to customers.
At a highlevel, the ten 19-20 month old heifers averaged €2,450 and three 7-8 month bull calves averaged €1,900.

Top priced heifer at €3,400 was lot 5 Mountain Dragonet Rosie 6, she was an ET heifer out of 3 generations EX Rosie cows. Her dam is a sister to Mountain Martell 24 (FR4003) and her granddam is a sister to Mountain Glenalbyn 7 EX94 (FR2430).
Dam has 2 VG and 2 EX sisters, 1 sister Mountain Frosty Rosie EX92 6E has produced over 100,000kgs of milk in 10 lactations and she is the dam of Mountain Jubularis Rosie 3 EX94 3E on her 5th lactation and 6 years old.
The 2nd highest priced heifer was lot 3 Mountain Harrier Aileen, her dam is VG89 3rd calver, should be an easy EX cow next year to make 4 straight generations of EX pure friesian Aileen dams, 2nd and 4th dams are Diamond award cows and the 3rd dam was champion pure Friesian senior cow in the All Ireland awards 2013.
Her 2nd dam completed 10 lactations, 3rd dam completed 8 and 4th dam completed 14 lactations.
Top price bull was 7 month old Mountain Jubularis 40 at €2,800, his dam Mountain Frosty Petula EX95 10E was the senior champion cow in the Elite section of the Tipperary/Waterford herds competition in 2020.
She has produced over 120,000kgs of milk and 8,000kgs of solids. She has completed 12 lactations with a calving interval of 366 days and her dam Mountain IDS Petula EX93 8E has also completed 12 lactations with a calving interval of 364 days, that's 2 generations of cows classifying EX 18 times and having an average calving interval over 24 lactations of 365 days. Both cows combined have produced 215,324kgs of milk and 14,934 kgs of solids.
Both cows have received Diamond awards.
Stunning longevity figures
The 2nd highest priced bull lot 14 Mountain Macy 14 an 8 months old by Firoda Macy 1 EX93 was sold for €2,100, his dam Mountain Tormore Aileen EX95 10E was All Ireland awards pure friesian senior champion cow in 2017.
She has produced 124,416kgs of milk and 8,976kgs of solids. She has completed 14 lactations with a calving interval of 365 days in her 1st 10 lactations before being flushed. She is still milking in the herd at 17 years and 8 months old, in her lifetime her feet have never been pared.
Her dam Mountain Lord Aileen EX92 4E has produced 90,983 kgs of milk and 6,904 kgs of solids and she also completed 14 with a calving interval of 365 days over her 1st 11 lactations, that's 2 generations of cows classifying EX 14 times and both cows combined have produced 215,399gs of milk and 15,880 kgs of solids.
Both cows have received Diamond awards. He has a sister Mountain Martell Aileen 4 EX92 2E.
