HERD OWNER
Pat Cleary is the third generation to farm in Hugginstown, Co. Kilkenny, upgrading his herd to pedigree status when he took over from his father Martin. Pat qualified in Agriculture Science, beginning in Kildalton Agricultural College and continuing onto Waterford Institute of Technology. Pat focuses on using AAA, classification and researching blood lines to bring about the best quality Friesians he can produce. The herd prides itself on having cows that sustain the family farm, while producing bulls, for AI and for sale, heifers and calves that all have a value, and that are also able to produce cows that are of show quality.
HERD DETAILS
The herd has been built up using mainly Dovea bloodline through the years, and then other British Frieisian genetics have been sourced that have brought through new blood lines.
The herd average for 2019 was: 6,912 litres, at 4.34% butterfat, 3.71% protein

NOTE - For Sale
For years, the Carrickshock herd has sold pedigree bulls and have attested to that fact with many of our customers returning year on year, for which we are extremely grateful. We have also sold many bulls for AI and have in 2020 we received great accreditation as Carrickshock GTW achieved highest PLI bull in the UK.
